Description: A preparatory course for the Diploma Project module within the Architecture Specialisation. This practical module may be taken either alongside the ‘Complex Design 2’ module or after completing the ‘Complex Design’ course. Its precise content and objectives are developed by the supervisors from the departments involved in the Diploma Design course, tailored to the specific character of the relevant department, the theme of the associated studio, and the programme of the diploma topic proposed or chosen by the student. According to the concept, within the framework of this practical module, a specific piece of work is produced which is related to the preparation of the final-year project, supports and underpins the subsequent design process, yet is also meaningful in its own right. The student may delve into the exploration of a specific sub-area of the design process, focus on the development of the design programme, or undertake an analytical study, which may take the form of a research paper or, where appropriate, a scholarly document. Research topics may include site analysis and the critical examination of contemporary or historical examples. The exact nature and content of the assignment, which is to be submitted and presented as a term project, will be finalised by the student in consultation with their supervisor following the first presentation. The course tutor must be the student’s chosen supervisor for their future diploma project.
