Description: Basics of Design Theory is a compulsory course in design theory in the first-semester of MSc programme at the Faculty of Architecture. This introductory ‘design theory’ course is organised by the Department of Explorative Architecture, the Department of Public Building Design, the Department of Residential Building Design and the Department of Urban Planning and design. It presents the diversity of architectural design whilst providing the fundamental knowledge of design theory required for the ‘Complex Design’ module, which is covered later in the programme. Lecturers from each department present the specific characteristics of their own fields in short thematic blocks and, together, demonstrate the diversity and complexity of design. The module not only lays the foundations for the design modules in the following semester but also stimulates interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the topics covered by each department.
